František Hrubín

František Hrubín

He was born in Prague, but he spent his youth in Israel in Posázaví. He studied at several grammar schools in Prague, after graduation (1932) tried unsuccessfully to study philosophy and pedagogy at the Charles university. From 1934 he was employed in the Municipal library in Prague and later at the ministry of information. In 1946, he became a writer by profession.

In 1939, he married, and later had two children.

Significantly participated in the founding of the children's magazine, wild Thyme, in the years 1945-1948 he edited.

On II. the congress of the Union of czechoslovak writers (1956), together with Jaroslav Seifert boldly criticized the connection of literature and politics, stood up for here not only perzekuovaných, but even closed writers. This performance led first to the prohibition of literary activity, very soon he was enabled to translate and write literature for children, his separate creation through various periods of prohibition and the issuance of.
