Zdenka Sulanová was born 18. February 1920 in České Budějovice as Zdenka Hrušková operatic tenoristovi Adolf Hruškovi (1885 – 19??). After four years of living in Prague with his parents relocated to Semil. Since childhood manifested a musical and vocal talents, which developed in the amateur ring and Bohumily Rosenkrancové. Studied grammar school in nová Paka and in the Zizkov district, but soon moved on, and successfully completed the State conservatory (1939).
