V. A. Krasnopolsky was born 14 Jun 1933 in Sverdlovsk. Mother — the choreographer Olga Knyazeva. In 1955 he graduated from the historical-philological faculty of USU in 1963 the directing Department of VGIK(I. P. Kopalin). In 1961-1963 he was the Director of the Sverdlovsk film Studio, 1964 — "Mosfilm". All directing and screenwriting work Krasnopolsky (except the plot for the film magazine "Wick", 1968) performed together with his second cousins[1][2] the brother V. I. Uskov.
