Jean Galfione (born 9 June 1971 in Paris, is a French athlete, specialist of pole vault. In 1996, in Atlanta, he became olympic champion in the pole vault clearing a bar at 5.92 m, a new olympic record. First frenchman to cross the bar from six yards, the 6 march 1999 on the occasion of his victory at the world Championships in hall of Maebashi, he holds the record of France in the open air, from 1993 to 2009. Since 2005, Jean Galfione is dedicated to sailing, his second passion. It is now the skipper of Team Serenis Consulting1 and prepares for the Route du Rhum 2014.
