Erling Schroeder

Trained at The royal Danish theatre. Theatre elevskole with the debut at the theatre in 1926. A comprehensive teaterkarriere with the exposures on most of the capital's scenes, both as an actor and director. Also has both played and directed at provinsscenerne, bl.a. Aarhus Theatre and Aalborg Theatre. Director of great hall 1943-47 and again from 1950-53.

As a film actor, he was very time-bound in its følelsesopskruede spilleform, but as a redeeming instructor and teaterpersonlighed decades later, he became a legendary figure who, with his relentlessly strict artistic requirements gave names like Ghita Nørby, Bodil Udsen, Lone Hertz and Susse Wold a new life on the stage. The feminine was his field, but a bit of a handicap in elskerrollerne!

He felt it of course. He was as matinee-idol, who recognized his limitations as an actor, abolished the office and re-established itself as one of our leading theatre directors. On the films grown his refined aristocratic exterior in romantic roles, which he takes out as (datidige) svigermødres dream. Later, he would have to reveal a different health nature, in contradiction with the behagesyge roles. Perhaps not so strange that he sounds phoney.
