William Averell Harriman (15 novembre 1891 - 26 juillet 1986) était un homme d'affaires américain, un homme politique démocrate et un diplomate. Harriman est né à New York, fils de magnats des chemins de fer (Edward Henry Harriman et Mary Williamson Averell), et frère de E. Roland Harriman. Il fut éduqué à Groton School dans le Massachusetts, puis à l'université Yale. Il épousa Kitty Lanier Lawrence, qui décéda en 1936. Il épousa ensuite Marie Norton Whitney. Enfin, son troisième et dernier mariage fut avec Pamela Beryl Digby, ancienne épouse du fils de Winston Churchill, Randolph.
